Pool repair and pool services in the Northern Suburbs
From the Durbanville hills to Bellville, Brackenfell and Edgemead, the Northern Suburbs have a large and varied pool stock. We refer you to a pool contractor who covers your suburb.
What pools are like in the Northern Suburbs
The Northern Suburbs grew in stages. Bellville and Parow have many established homes from the middle of the last century, Edgemead and parts of Durbanville filled up with family homes in the 1970s and 1980s, and Brackenfell, Kraaifontein and the edges of Durbanville have large numbers of newer estates. That spread means you find everything here: old marbelite pools that have been resurfaced more than once, fibreglass shells from the 1990s and 2000s, and recent builds in estate gardens.
Summers here are hotter and drier than in the Southern Suburbs, and the area gets less rain. Pools work hard in December and January, pumps run long hours and chlorine is used up fast. Pump and filter faults are among the most common jobs.
Ground conditions to know about
Around the Durbanville hills and Plattekloof, clay soils are common. Clay swells when it is wet in winter and shrinks in the dry summer, which can move paving, coping and the pipes around a pool. A crack that opens and closes with the seasons needs a different repair from a crack that has stopped moving, so it is worth having it diagnosed before it is patched.
Slopes are another factor in the hillier suburbs. Pools on sloping sites may have retaining walls and longer pipe runs to the pump room, and access for machinery is not always easy.
