Pool repair and pool services in Table Bay and the West Coast
Table View, Milnerton, Bloubergstrand and Parklands sit on low, sandy ground close to the sea. That changes how pools leak and how they are repaired. We refer you to a contractor who works in the area.
Sand, groundwater and salt air
Much of the Table Bay coast is flat, sandy and not far above sea level, with wetlands and the Diep River system running through Milnerton. In many places the water table is close to the surface, especially in winter. For a pool, that has three practical effects.
First, leaks hide. Water escaping from a pipe or fitting drains away into the sand rather than pooling on the surface, so the first sign is often a level that keeps falling or paving that slowly settles. Second, draining a pool is risky. An empty shell in waterlogged ground can be pushed upwards by groundwater, so contractors here plan carefully before they empty a pool and often check the hydrostatic relief valve. Third, the sea air is hard on metal: pump motors, light fittings, ladders and handrails corrode faster near the coast.
Wind and sand in the pool
The south-easter blows hard along this coast in summer and carries fine sand. Sand ends up in skimmers, on the pool floor and in the filter, which means more backwashing, more wear on pumps and more frequent cleaning of baskets. A pump that sounds rough or a filter that clogs quickly is common here, and is often a sign that the equipment is working harder than it was designed to.

Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to drain my pool in Table View?
Only after a contractor has checked the groundwater. Where the water table is high, an empty pool can lift. Many leaks and repairs can be handled without draining.
Why can I not see where my pool is leaking?
In sandy ground, leaking water drains away instead of pooling. Settling paving or a falling level may be the only signs. A leak detection test finds the source.
