Pool repairs in Cape Town
Cracked marbelite, a broken skimmer, a dead light or a leaking pipe. Tell us what the pool is doing and we refer you to a pool contractor who covers your suburb.
What pool repairs cover
Pool repairs are the jobs that keep an existing pool working: fixing what has broken rather than remaking the whole pool. In Cape Town the common ones are cracks in the surface, leaking skimmers and fittings, pipe repairs, broken lights, loose coping stones and tiles, and faults at the pump and filter.
Some jobs are small and quick. Others start small and turn out to be a sign of something bigger, such as a crack that keeps opening because the ground is moving. A good contractor tells you which one you are dealing with before you pay for a cosmetic fix.
- Crack repairs in marbelite, plaster, fibreglass and tiled pools.
- Skimmer box, return fitting and main drain repairs.
- Underground and pump-room plumbing repairs.
- Pool light replacement and sealing.
- Coping, waterline tile and paving repairs around the pool.
- Step, bench and ledge repairs.
Signs a repair cannot wait
Water loss, a crack that has grown since last season, coping that rocks underfoot and a light that trips the electricity all deserve prompt attention. Water escaping from a pool softens the ground around it, which can undermine paving and in time the shell. Electrical faults near water are a safety issue first and a pool issue second.
If the pool is losing water and you do not know why, start with pool leak detection so the repair is aimed at the right place.
How a pool repair usually goes
The contractor inspects the pool and asks how long the problem has been there. For cracks, the key question is whether the crack is moving. A stable hairline crack can be sealed; a moving crack needs its cause dealt with, or the repair will open again. For plumbing, the contractor isolates the pipe run before opening any ground.
Some repairs can be done with the pool full, using underwater compounds. Others need the level lowered or the pool drained. Draining is a decision, not a default: in areas with a high water table an empty pool can be pushed up by groundwater, so ask how the contractor will manage that risk.
You should receive a written quote that says what will be fixed, what will not, and how long the repair is expected to last. Ask what happens if the same problem returns.
Repair, resurface or renovate?
If the surface is cracked in many places, rough, stained or chalky, patching each spot may not be worth it. At that point resurfacing or relining is often the better use of money. If you also want to change the shape, add steps or replace the coping and equipment, look at a pool renovation. Our guide to what moves a pool repair quote explains the trade-offs.
What happens when you send us your repair
Use the form to tell us your suburb, what is broken and anything you have noticed, such as water loss or a crack that has grown. We pass the enquiry to an independent pool contractor who covers your area. The contractor contacts you, inspects and quotes. You decide whether to go ahead.
We do not do the repair and we do not set the price. The contractor is responsible for the work. Read our terms for how the referral works.

What moves the quote
We do not publish prices. The contractor quotes you directly once they understand the job. These are the factors that usually make the difference:
- The type of repair, and whether the cause also needs fixing.
- The pool surface: marbelite, fibreglass, tiled or painted.
- Whether the work can be done underwater or needs the level lowered.
- Access for tools and materials, and any paving that has to be lifted.
- Parts and fittings, and whether originals are still available.
- Travel to your suburb and the contractor's call-out terms.

Frequently asked questions
Can a crack in my pool be repaired without draining it?
Often, yes. Many small cracks and fittings can be repaired with underwater compounds. The contractor will tell you if the level must be lowered for a lasting repair.
Why does my pool crack keep coming back?
Usually because the crack is moving. Ground movement, a leak washing out soil, or a structural problem keeps reopening it. The cause needs fixing, not just the crack.
Is it worth repairing an old pool?
It depends on the shell and the surface. A sound shell with a worn surface is often worth resurfacing. A contractor can tell you after an inspection.
Do you guarantee the repair?
No. We are a referral service and do not do the work. Ask the contractor what guarantee they give, and get it in writing.
Which areas do you refer pool repairs in?
We refer across the Cape Town metro, including the Northern and Southern Suburbs, Table Bay, the Atlantic Seaboard and the Helderberg. See the areas page for detail.
