Pool maintenance and cleaning in Cape Town
Regular cleaning and water care is a different service from repair. If you want someone to look after your pool every week or month, we can refer you to a pool service provider who covers your suburb.
Maintenance is not the same as repair
We keep this service separate on purpose. A pool service visit is about clean, balanced water and equipment that keeps running: brushing, vacuuming, emptying baskets, backwashing and testing the water. Repairs, leak detection, resurfacing and new pools are specialist jobs and have their own pages.
A good service provider is still valuable for repairs, because they see the pool regularly and spot problems early: a pump that is getting louder, a level that keeps dropping or a crack that has appeared since last month. They should tell you, and point you to the right specialist when needed.
What a regular pool service usually includes
- Skimming leaves and debris off the surface.
- Brushing the walls and steps, and vacuuming the floor.
- Emptying the skimmer and pump baskets.
- Backwashing and rinsing the filter when needed.
- Testing the water and adjusting the chemicals.
- Checking the pump, timer, chlorinator and automatic cleaner.
- Reporting anything that needs a repair.
Why Cape Town pools need steady care
Summer heat and long swimming days use up chlorine fast. The south-easter blows leaves, sand and dust into pools across the city, and in winter, rain dilutes the water and can upset the balance. Pools under oaks and other large trees collect a heavy leaf load in autumn.
Water balance matters for the pool surface, not just for clear water. Water that stays out of balance for long periods can etch a marbelite surface or leave scale, and that shortens the time before the pool needs resurfacing.
A winter routine is also worth having. Running the pump for fewer hours and keeping a cover on can save electricity and chemicals, but a pool left completely alone for months is often the one with a green surprise in September. See our guide on how to prepare your pool for summer.
Choosing a pool service provider
Ask these questions before you agree to a regular service:
- How often will you visit, and what is done at every visit?
- Are chemicals included, or charged separately?
- Will you send a short report or a message after each visit?
- What happens if a visit is missed because of weather?
- Who do you call for repairs you cannot do yourselves?
- Is there a notice period if I want to stop the service?
What happens when you send us your request
Tell us your suburb, the pool's rough size and how often you would like a service. We pass the enquiry to an independent pool service provider who covers your area, who contacts you and quotes directly. We do not clean pools and we do not set the price.
When you need more than a clean
- Water level keeps dropping: pool leak detection.
- Pump, filter or chlorinator problems: pool pump and equipment repair.
- Rough, stained or cracked surface: pool resurfacing and relining.
- Broken fittings, lights or coping: pool repairs.
What moves the quote
We do not publish prices. The contractor quotes you directly once they understand the job. These are the factors that usually make the difference:
- How often the pool is serviced.
- Pool size and how much debris it collects.
- Whether chemicals are included.
- Equipment checks or small parts included in the visit.
- Travel to your suburb.

Frequently asked questions
How often should a pool be serviced?
Many owners choose weekly in summer and less often in winter. The right interval depends on use, trees and wind. Ask the provider what they recommend for your pool.
Is pool cleaning the same as pool repair?
No. Cleaning keeps the water and equipment in order. Repairs, leak detection and resurfacing are specialist jobs. We refer for both, separately.
Why does my pool turn green so quickly?
Heat, heavy use, rain, leaves and a filter that is not running long enough all use up chlorine. Regular testing and filter care prevent most green water.
Can a pool service provider spot leaks?
They can notice signs, such as a level that keeps falling. Finding the leak itself is a job for a leak detection specialist.
Do you clean pools yourselves?
No. We are a referral service and pass your request to an independent pool service provider who covers your suburb.
